D1 (U24): Discuss how successful media concepts have been positively exploited across multiple media industries.
Netflix is a relatively old streaming service compared to the new ones as it was founded in 1997 but is has the biggest customer base because it is very reliable and can be accessed from anywhere in the world and they have different shows that are able to be viewed depending on the country that you sign up in and anyone in the world can get a subscription. The subscription prices range from £5.99 to £13.99 and this determines how many screens can be watching Netflix on one account and how many users you can have.
Netflix has a wide variety of content on their which is suited for everyone and all audiences will be able to find something that they like due to the amount of content that is added each week. Netflix targets the audience with shows they may like based on what content they have watched before and it shows them shows they may like. All of the different content is on Netflix because they want to be able to give all of their customers the content that they want to see because if they get rid of one genre then they may lose a lot of customers.
In 2018 Netflix had just over 70.8 million subscribers world wide which was raised to 167.1 million in just 4 years. As Netflix has gained more traction over the years they have been able to add more content because produces will want their content on Netflix because it will draw awareness the their work if it is successful. Netflix is used by so many people everyday as an alternative to normal television programmes because they are all the same or repeats so it provides new content to people and this is why there have been more subscriptions.Netflix is accessible on every digital device that can be thought of such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, smart TVs and via PlayStations. This allows for Netflix to reach such a wide target audience that they make it so seamless to access as long as they have internet connection or they can download what they want to watch and they can view it offline.
Due to the wide variety of content on their it allows them to keep all of their customers interested because there is shows for everyone and it doesn't matter about their age as they will be able to find something whether it's true crime documentaries or action there is always something that will interest you and grab your attention.
They advertise by social media as they promote some of they shows by purchasing ad spaces on social media websites such as You Tube because they have such a large audience which means that so many people will be aware of this new show on Netflix and if they like the look of it then they can start a free trial or pay for a subscription to watch it. They also advertise on billboards with just their name on it and because it is so recognisable that people who see it may start thinking about getting a membership.
The Amazon Echo or "Alexa" can be used in conjunction with Netflix as you can connect them together and open Netflix by speaking to Alexa. It also works with them voice controllers so you can tell it to open Netflix and play a show that you want to watch.
Netflix endorses lots of celebrities to star in their Netflix originals because they are the best at what they do and Netflix also does this to attract new people to Netflix because they may see their favourite actor on one of these shows trailers and watch the show or film because this one celebrity is in it.
